Volkswagen dominated the Automotive Brand Contest 2020, securing a total of five awards in the automotive design segment. The ID.3, the all-electric model leading Volkswagen into the future, was named ‘Best of the Best’ in two distinct categories.

The Automotive Brand Contest is the only independent, international design competition for automotive brands.

The Volkswagen ID.3 scooped a handful of titles at the Automotive Brand Contest 2020, including ‘Best of the Best in the “Exterior Volume Brand” and “Interior Volume Brand” categories.

“The ID.3 is expressive, featuring a curved yet simultaneously tight line with coherent interior and exterior,” the official judging panel noted.

The ID.3 is an impressive contemporary interpretation of Volkswagen’s typical, enhanced design idiom – it is the long-awaited, young Volkswagen boasting the courage required to spark a new movement.”

Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Group Design, said that to his team the ID.3 represents the dawn of a new era of mobility, as well as heralding the advent of a digital design era in which Volkswagen aims to virtually create the best possible user experiences.

This recognition from the judging panel shows that we are on the right track,” he said.

The new eighth-generation Golf, launched in late 2019, emerged as the victor in this year’s competition. The panel designated the vehicle as the winner in the “Exterior Volume Brand” and “Interior Volume Brand” categories.

Meanwhile, the ID. SPACE VIZZION – the seventh member of the ID. family – was named the winner in the Concepts category; a positive start for a vehicle which will eventually go on sale in production form.

Founded in order to honour outstanding product and communication design, the Automotive Brand Contest was established in 2011. The competition is designed to draw attention to the fundamental importance of brand and brand design in the automotive industry. The interdisciplinary judging panel consists of members working in media, design, industrial companies, higher education institutions and architecture.
